Meet Theory Girl Shruti
Shruti Paranjape is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Davis who studies quantum field theory, a framework that describes all of particle physics as we know it. In 2021, she graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her PhD advisor was Prof. Henriette Elvang.
Currently, she is interested in the role that symmetries of nature play in determining scattering processes, the quintessential probes of particle physics. Starting with a knowledge of symmetries of a system reduces the complexity of amplitude calculations 1000-fold, allowing one to do more precise calculations, understanding structures in quantum field theory that we haven't been able to before. Shruti is excited to see where this modern approach to scattering amplitudes takes her.
Shruti has a keen interest in teaching and believes that a good education system is the solution to most of the world's problems. She received a Bachelors and Masters in Science from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune, India, before flying across the Atlantic. Her other interests include Indian classical dance and using the metric system.
